Another cleansheet for Rogers as Dundalk win again

This morning Gary Rogers, Jamie McGrath and their Dundalk colleagues can reflect on a job well done after their victory over Derry City in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland at the Brandywell last night. 

The Dundalk players must love travelling up to the home of Derry City FC as they haven't lost there since 2012 and they ensured that record continued with goals from Sean Murray and Pat Hoban, who got his from the penalty spot. 

McGrath and Rogers played the full game and the win - following on from their 4-0 defeat of Waterford the previous week - suggests that Dundalk are starting to find their rhythm once again - an ominous sign for those hoping to take the title off them. 

Eleswhere there mixed fortunes for Meath players from last night's series of games in the Premier. On the Derry City team that succumbed to the Lilywhites was Greg Sloggett while down in the RSC in Waterford Kevin Toner's St Patrick's Athletic team lost 0-2 to the home side. Toner had forgettable memories from the last time he played at the RSC as he was sent off and he was fortunate not to see red again after a hefty challenge on Bastien Hery. 

However one man who had reason to be happy with the final outcome was Georgie Poynton who came on as a 56th minute substitute for Waterford. 

Young Skryne man James Finnerty headed a late equaliser for Bohemians the previous week but last night he couldn't repeat the feat as the Dalymount side lost 0-2 away to Cork City. Finnerty's reputation as a talented young player is growing and he did some good work last night helping to prevent further goals as the Bohs defence were under sustained pressure.  Things might not have worked out for him at Aston Villa as he would have hoped but he is a richly talented young player who has already impressed with Bohs since his return back home. 

In Div 1, Athlone Town goalkeeping coach Aaron Shanahan, who is from Navan, must have been very happy with how the team kept a cleansheet and carved out a 1-0 win away to Bray. Shane Dunne and Kealan Dillon are also part of what is clearly a very much improved Athlone Town side. Last season they struggled to win a game now they are third in table.  

The news, however, wasn't so good for Timmy Clancy and Drogheda Utd as they lost 1-4 at home to Cabinteely and currently languish in fourth last place.
