Special night to remember Derek and raise funds for River Rescue

Friends and family of the late Derek Gallagher will show their appreciation for the work of Meath River Rescue at a fundraiser in Derek's memory in Forty One, Navan, tonight.

Dave Tyrell, Derek's best mate, is involved in organising this night to remember Derek, while also raising funds for Meath River Rescue and explained there will be music by Joy Booth & Ada McHugh, Alan McGoona, Gary Clerkin, Skye Norton, Paulie Fagan Band, Peadar Mulvey & friends, as well as a raffle and auction. Boxing gloves signed by Ricky Hatten and Tyson Fury will be up for auction.
Doors open at 8pm and tickets are €10, available at the door or from Dave at 085-1245933.
Eight of Derek’s friends are also going to run the Dublin Marathon in October in Derek's memory. Between Friday night's fundraiser and the Dublin Marathon, they aim to raise €10,000 for Meath River Rescue.
“Meath River Rescue were out looking for Derek for 26 days, day and night. The effort the volunteers put in was incredible, we wanted to do something to raise money for them, while also remembering Derek,” said Dave Tyrell.
Derek Gallagher's remains were recovered from the River Boyne on St Stephen's Day 2017, after an extensive 26-day search involving many voluntary groups including Meath River Rescue and also family members and friends. The 36-year-old from Silverlawn, Navan, was last seen on 30th November.  Searches continued daily over the Christmas period even continuing on Christmas Day, until Derek was brought home to his family.
