Clancy takes over as Drogheda boss

Timmy Clancy from Trim has taken over as the manager of Drogheda Utd for next season. He will work alongside former Sligo Rovers manager Dave Robertson who is the club's new director of football. 

The 33-year-old Clancy has a wide range of experience in professional football having played with a number of clubs during his career including Millwall, Walton & Hersham, Weymouth, Fisher Athletic, Kilmarnock, Hibernians, St Johnstone. He returned to Ireland where he lined out for Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers. He also played for Trim Celtic and Belvedere before joining Millwall and was capped for Ireland at u-19 level.  

Clancy has a big job on his hands to revive the fortunes of Drogheda who were relegated from the Premier Div at the end of the League of Ireland season that finished recently. Clancy replaces Pete Mahon who stepped down after a number of years in charge at United Park. 

Last Saturday Clancy was the manager of the Meath Dream Team that took on Trim Celtic in a unique exhibition game last Saturday to mark the re-opening of Tully Park after redevelopment work. 

The appointment of Clancy and Robertson is a very ambitious move by Drogheda Utd as they seek to regain their place at the top table of soccer in this country.
