New windfarm plan for south meath

The company behind the controversial project to construct 46 wind turbines in north Meath is planning to make a new application for up to 55 turbines in the south of the county, as well as in north Kildare and Offaly.
Element Power lodged a notice with An Bord Pleanala in the last few days requesting to enter into pre-application consultations in relation to the development.
Although the company has not given the detail of its intentions in south Meath, members of the anti-turbine Meath Wind Information Group (MWIG) says it has information that the areas affected by the new proposal include Enfield, Longwood, Boardsmill and Ballivor, and that the Element Power company has also been involved in activity in the Kilskyre-Ballinlough area near Kells.
The firm has notified all interested parties, including the county councils, about its intention to enter pre-planning consultations.
In a statement issued this week, the company said: “Element Power Ireland is continuing to assess the potential to develop a windfarm in Counties Kildare, Offaly and Meath at present.
“If the potential to develop a wind farm exists, a full stakeholder consultation process - including public consultation - will be held, prior to finalisation of plans for any proposed wind farm development in the area.”
