Almost 20,000 non-Irish nationals living in Meath

Almost 11 per cent of Meath's population are non-Irish nationals, according to figures released from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) today. The figures show that 19,802 non-Irish nationals were living in Meath at the time of the Census in April 2011, accounting for 10.8% of people living in the county. Of this, 3,867 were Polish nationals - the largest non-Irish nationality in the county, followed by 3,638 UK nationals. Today's report from the CSO entitled 'Profile 6 Migration and Diversity - A Profile of Diversity in Ireland', presents a profile of non-Irish nationals living in Ireland in April 2011, along with results on recent migration, foreign languages and ability to speak English. "It examines aspects such as mixed nationality households, age structure and marital status, numbers by towns, as well as new data on ability to speak English by year of arrival into Ireland," said Deirdre Cullen, senior statistician at the CSO . The full report is available for viewing on the CSO website at www.cso.ie/census. Today's figures reveal that there were a total of 544,357 non-Irish nationals living throughout Ireland, representing 199 different nations.
