Australian researching Kildalkey roots
Dear sir - I am interested in exploring the Irish side of my heritage. The Meath Heritage and Genealogy Centre very kindly provided me with some information in 2006, which confirmed my research and I now have a good idea of the lives of my ancestors in Australia from the mid -800s. Unfortunately I have now reached a brick wall with my enquiries. I am particularly interested in any information of family left behind in Co Meath, and hope some kind person can fill in a few blanks for me. Richard, James, Patrick and Marcella Sherlock were born in Kildalkey parish from 1814 to 1824 to Thomas Sherlock and Margaret Flynn, who had also married in the same parish in 1810. Patrick arrived in Australia first, but I do not know how or why, although he may have headed first to New Zealand and then Tasmania. I tend to think he may have been a convict but there does not appear to be any record of his arrival thus. A Patrick Sherlock whose trial was in Meath was transported according to the Irish Transportation records available on line, however I have no other information about that person. Patrick Sherlock 'married' Catherine Lowe or McLachlan (a widow with children) who subsequently sponsored Patrick's sister Marcella and her husband James Ryan to come to Australia in 1859 with their four children. The first of Marcella's four children was also born in Kildalkey. I would be grateful for any information, particularly if Sherlock or Ryan descendants are still alive.
