Watch out for Barry Sheridan, proprieter of The Wine Buff, at the Electric Picnic, where he will be offering three glasses of wine for the price of two to Meath Chronicle readers!
One of the most anticipated music festivals of the year, the Electric Picnic, takes place this weekend in Stradbally, Co Laois, and features Meath-based acts such as Ham Sandwich and The Lost Brothers. For the first time, this year's Picnic will have a dedicated food area which will serve as an homage to all things gastronomic called the 'Theatre of Food'. Festival-goers can look forward to a host of activities from food demos, wine tasting, speed dating, pop up dining, with plenty of opportunities a plenty to taste wine and sample food. At the centre of a lot of this will be Barry Sheridan from the Wine Buff in Navan.
Barry is also running 'The Wine Bar' at the Electric Picnic, bringing some of their most popular wines to Stradbally and allowing a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy some of the best wines around. The Wine Bar will be a most for all wine and food lovers and the Wine Buff will be popping up over the weekend in the Theatre of Food providing tasting, samples, and advice to complement the culinary delights that will be cooked up.
Some of the events that Barry will be involved with are a cooking demonstration with Paul Flynn of The Tannery, where Paulcooks up a few recipes, paired with the Wine Buff.
On both the Saturday and Sunday, 'The Cookbook Club' will host an elaborate dining table, with an elaborate candelabra and theatrical set pieces. On the hour the table will host 10 people, a selection of tapas and plenty of opportunity to flirt, giggle, chat and see what happens.
And on Saturday at 4.40pm, The Bridgestone Tent hosts 'Guinea Pig Wine Tasting' with Food & Wine Magazine and The Wine Buff.
There will also be cooking demonstrations in 'Mash it Up' in the Neff Kitchen with Denis Cotter (Cafe Paradiso) paired with wines from the Wine Buff.
In the Food Collective on Saturday afternoon, Seamus Sheridan of Sheridan's Cheesemongers will talk on 'Jam Making and the GAA - the culture of Irish food'.
