Palace to host gig for Oldcastle event

The Whatmans are performing at the Le Cheile launch party this weekend.

Friday night 3rd June will see the first party of the summer kick off in style with the Le Cheile Arts and Music Festival 2011 launch party. Now entering its 14th year, Le Cheile, based in Oldcastle, has gone from strength to strength since its inception. This year sees possibly the strongest line up in its history, and there is already a huge amount of excitement and anticipation building. At the launch, details of the full 2011 line up will be unveiled, along with live music from four bands, and promotions on the night.

Playing at the Palace on Friday night are Codes. Formed from the ashes of Lost, the Dublin quartet have, with the help of Manic Street Preachers producer Greg Haver, made an album that's scarily accomplished for a debut. If you're a fan of big-sounding indie songs with more than a touch of the epic about them, you'll love what Darragh Anderson and co have done.

Also playing is Cavan based band, Shouting at Planes. The band won a national competition in 2010, which consisted of over 100 bands, with the final prize being a slot at the Glastonbury festival. Amazingly, the band had only been playing together three months at the time when they won this prestigious prize. They have gone on to play at many festivals since then, including Indiependence and the Temple House festival in the summer of 2010.

Supporting the above will be Navan based band The Whatmans. Regular slots and gigs around Navan have made the Whatmans a hit in their native town.

Recently playing at Wilkfest, and with a solid set at Dublin's Crawdaddy venue, the Whatmans are sure to attract a huge local crowd.

Oldcastle band, I am KAII, complete the launch night line-up. Formerly known as Eskimo Kid, this five-piece band have been impressing of late and are currently in rehearsals ahead of their appearance, and have recently been confirmed for the Le Cheile Festival itself.

Exclusively at the launch, there will also be limited edition weekend tickets on sale. These tickets will cover every gig over the festival weekend and priced at just €99 are sure to sell out fast! Admission on the night is €10 with a reception from 7pm with the first band on stage at 8pm till late. A bus will be leaving Crean's bar, Oldcastle, at 6.30pm to arrive in Navan for 7pm.

For your chance to win VIP tickets, check out the Le Cheile Facebook site at www.facebook.com/lecheile and keep an eye out for the upcoming competitions. Your VIP ticket will gain you free access, champagne reception, a chance to view the bands from VIP section, backstage access and lots more.
