Navan Boxing Club's Christopher Blaney is the Meath Chronicle / Cusack Hotels Sports Person-of-the-Month for January. He was a contender for the 2009 youth award which was presented at the annual awards last month at Knightsbrook Hotel.
Blaney, who lives in Wilkinstown and is a student at O'Carolan College Nobber, won his eighth national title in late January.
The victory earned Blaney a place on the Irish team that will take part in the AIBA World Youths Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan in April.
If Blaney performs well in Azerbaijan he could earn a place on the Irish squad for the Junior Olympics in Singapore next August.
Blaney has already boxed in an international tournament in Baku last year. He is coached at Navan BC by his father Neil Blaney, Richie Meade and George Gibney.
The 2010 awards will be presented next January at Knightsbrook Hotel and will include the usual categories with the 12 monthly winners vying for overall supremacy again.
