Goalkeeper Amanda McQuillan celebrating with her IT Carlow team yesterday

Third Level success for Amanda McQuillan

Talented Johnstown, Navan woman Amanda McQuillan keeps pulling out the top performances as a goalkeeper.

Yesterday she crucially kept her goal intact as she helped IT Carlow to victory in the third level competition the WSCAI Kelly Cup at Jackman Park, Limerick.

McQuillan was in excellent form as IT Carlow took the title with a late extra-time goal from player of the match Chloe Moloney against University College Cork.

Following a scoreless first half the second half was also scarce of chances as the elements began to take their toll on proceedings.

UCC's Eadaoin Lyons tested McQuillan in the Carlow goal while Carlow substitute Megan Lynch struck the outside of the post from a free kick in extra-time.

The game looked certain to go to penalties when Carlow won a corner with seconds remaining. Roma McLaughlin whipped the ball in and Moloney got free of her marker and headed home at the back post to seal the trophy.
