Moore and Corcoran in squad for Hungary

Two Meath players have been included in the Republic of Ireland u-16 squad for two international friendlies against Hungary next week.

Jimmy Corcoran from Kells and Paddy Moore from Wilkinstown are in the18-man squad that features 11 of the players from the victorious 2017 Victory Shield squad return, ahead of back-to-back games in Budapest.

Corcoran played for Kells / Blackwater in the NECSL and is now with top Dublin club Cherry Orchard while Moore played for Torro Utd before moving to St Kevin's Boys and he is now with Bohemian FC.

Corcoran was also part of the Republic of Ireland u-16s  team that won the Victory Shield for the second year in a row, after defeating Scotland 2-0 in Bangor last October.

Jimmy has kept in close touch with his former club and regularly trains young goalkeepers from the club and along with Paddy Moore featured for the Republic of Ireland last September in a u-16 friendly international against Brazil at the AUL in Dublin.

Following the squad announcement, head coach Paul Osam said he is looking forward to the chance to see some new players in action.

Some players that played in the Victory Shield are unavailable and I wanted to look at other players in certain positions,” he commented.

There’s a lot of new players coming in for the first time. If players play well at their clubs they will get the opportunity,” he added.
