Cosmos crash out to Collinstown

Navan Cosmos' adventures in the Leinster Junior Cup came to an end last night when they were defeated 1-4 by Collinstown FC in the semi-final stage at the South Dublin Football League grounds, Ballyown Park, Lucan.

The North East Football League side took an early lead through Colm Carney after just 15 minutes and for most of the first half  it was looking good for them.

However, with 27 minutes on the clock the home side equalised when they were awarded a penalty and former St Patrick's Athletic player Graham Doyle swept the ball to the net from the spot-kick.

Just before the interval it got worse for Derek Coogan's side when Collinstown grabbed a second through Ger Shortt and it stayed 2-1 at the break.

The second-half had few outstanding moments for Cosmos with full-back Paul Delaney goint closest to finding the net but it was mainly backs-to-the-wall stuff as far as the Navan side were concerned.

Cosmos were left with an even steeper hill to climb when Donal Callan was sent off.

Not that Collinstown created a host of chances but they did do enough to add two more goals through Shortt and Darren Clarke to ensure their place in the final.
