Boyne boys take scenic route to schools final

Boyne Community School, Trim took the scenic route but in the end they defeated St Mary's Diocesan School, Drogheda at the MDL today to book a place in the Leinster Schools First Year Boys cup final.

The game finished level, 1-1, at the end of normal time and when no more goals were scored it went to a dreaded penalty shoot-out.

In the end Boyne held their nerve to win 4-2 on penalties and progress to the final.

This was a tough, and as the scorelines at the end of normal time suggests, a very even semi-final clash.

Boyne took the lead in the second-half of normal time when their striker David Boyle superly tucked the ball away after he found himself one-on-one with the St Mary's goalkeeper.

However, the Drogheda side didn't give up on their dream just then but fought back to level matters.

No more goals were conjured up from open play but Boyne captain Craig Moore was unlucky not to snatch a second for his team when he unleashed a shot and the ball cannoned off the post late on.

Boyne's netminder David Curran also played his part making a number of excellent saves throughout the game while Jake Murray, Alan Costello, Kyle Gilligan, Robbie Johnston and Sam Murray were among those to give outstanding contributions.
