Navan Cosmos against Newfoundwell this evening.

Cosmos ship title blow as they lose out to Newfoundwell

Hopes Navan Cosmos harbour of retaining their NEFL Premier crown at the end of this season were hit hard at the MDL this evening when they lost 0-1 to Newfoundwell.

The only goal of the game came just after half-time when Newfoundwell's John Kermode hit a stinging shot from distance and beat Conor Gilsenan.

Not that much got passed Gilsenan in this tight game. The Cosmos goalkeeper had a busy evening and he made a number of superb saves to keep his side in the game.

That said a lot about the high quota of chances the visitors had. The Drogheda side dominated the opening half and were unlucky not to take the lead.

However, just before the interval Cosmos enjoyed a fruitful spell and with Colm Carney hitting the post with an effort while Jack Murray and Donal Callan also had good opportunitites.

Despite the concession of the goal just after the interval Cosmos had the better of the second-half but they couldn't find a way through.

The Newfoundwell goalkeeper Keith Martin made a crucial stop from Paul Delaney while Robbie Dillon shot over from the rebound and that was as close as the Navan side came to conjuring up an equaliser.

Cosmos really needed to win this game and the defeat means they slipped further behind the leading three.
