McGrath makes move to Lilywhites

Young Athboy player Jamie McGrath will have an opportunity to play European football this year after he signed for reigning Airtricity League Premier champions Dundalk.

McGrath makes the move from St Patrick's Athletic and now joins Bohermeen man Gary Rogers at Oriel Park.

Another Meath player, Georgie Poynton from Bettystown was also at Oriel Park last season when the Lilywhites conquered new territory in Europe and clinched their second successive league crown.

McGrath is the son of Kevin McGrath who has been involved in coaching soccer in Athboy in recent years.

Jamie McGrath has worn the green of Ireland at a number of levels. He scored a dramatic late goal to help earn the Irish Schools team a 3-3 draw with their English counterparts at Ashton Gate, Bristol in 2014

He was also capped for the Republic of Ireland at u-19 level and, at the end of last year, he was called into the national u-21 squad for a training camp in Spain and two friendly internationals.

McGrath has attracted a lot of interest from English clubs but he has instead focused on furthering his education by acquiring a degree in Maynooth University.
