Six for Cosmos in Leinster Junior Cup

Navan Cosmos advanced to the next round of the Leinster Junior Cup tonight when they recorded a 6-0 victory against Leinster Senior League side Dublin Central at the MDL.

Dublin Central are in their first season in the Leinster Senior League and are currently well placed to challenge for honours in the Premier Sunday with a number of games in hand.

Previously, the club was known as O'Devaney Dunard from the AUL, but a number of changes have taken place that included a new identity and a new challenge in the LSL from their base around the Grangegorman area.

The Dublin side fared well in the opening half in what were difficult conditions for both teams and they had a couple of chances with Sean Gannon going close in the sixth minute and midway through the half Lee Brassil made Cosmos 'keeper Conor Gilsenan work hard with a fine effort.

However, Cosmos also created some good chances and Dubli Central  'keeper Anthony McGuinness made a string of fine saves throughout.

McGuinness was beaten in the 15th minute when Conor Walsh claimed the first of his two first-half goals - the second arrived in the 40th minute.

Cosmos were 2-0 ahead at the break and at that stage there was no way back for Dublin Central although Gannon's free from the edge of the area after the resumption put the hosts under pressure.

Robbie Dillon's goal sealed the victory (3-0) and further goals from Ciaran Rogers (two) and Donal Callan rounded off a good evening for Derek Coogan's men.

Cosmos will travel to Dublin on Wednesday night next for a Leinster Senior Cup tie against Sherriff YC.
