Gary Rogers keeps clean sheet in historic victory for League of Ireland side

Another fantastic performance from Gary Rogers and Dundalk in the Europa League at Tallaght tonight where they created even more history by recording the first victory for a League of Ireland side in the Group stages of a European competition with a 1-0 win against Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Rogers kept a clean sheet with the goal arriving from second-half substitute Ciaran Kilduff who found the net with almost his first touch in the 72nd minute.

The win moved Dundalk into a clear second place in the Group as Tel Aviv have now lost their first two games, while leaders Zenit defeated AZ, who drew 1-1 with Dundalk in the opening round, by 5-0 tonight and will visit Tallaght next month for a showdown between the top two in the Group.

This was only the fourth UEFA game between Irish and Israeli clubs; previous three produced two draws and one Irish win.

The Bohermeen man and his colleagues will not have too much time to rest on their laurels as they will now focus on Sunday's FAI Cup semi-final at Oriel Park against Derry City - a team they defeated 3-1 in the League last week.
