Six-goal thriller as Cosmos make a point!

Navan Cosmos had to battle for a North East Football League Premier point tonight against Trim Celtic at the MDL in a 3-3 windswept thriller.

The goals were a mixed bag of the good, the not so good and outright flukes - but both sides managed one of each variety.

Cosmos hit the front in the second minute with a good goal from Rob Coombes while Trim were on terms soon after when Anthony Craig equalled that feat.

Trim then took the lead with a fortunate sort of a goal from Paul Campbell, his 150th senior goal for the club, but it was a kind of wind-assisted lob from a tight angle.

Cosmos got back on terms in the 30th minute when Cillien Corcoran found the net and that left it 2-2 at the break.

Trim were sharper against the elements for the early part of the second-half and Cosmos custodain Conor Gilsenan produced a fine save before Trim could have had a penalty - waved away by the referee, but it looked like a penalty.

Some ppor defending paved the way for Craig's second goal for Trim (see video clip) and then Comos almost scored twice - Ciran Rogers was denied by Iain Telford and then the Trim goalie almost got caught out by a long Gilsenan clearance.

The Cosmos equaliser was similar to Campbell's goal for Trim, but Rian Wogan will probably claim that he meant it.

The point puts Cosmos level with Newfoundwell at the top on 42 points each. Cosmos have a game in hand.

Newfoundwell play Boyne on Friday night - Cosmos go to Abbey Celtic on Sunday.
