FAI official will facilitate NEFL meeting in Navan tonight

Local club officials will be attending an important meeting convened by the North East Football League in the Ardboyne Hotel, Navan this evening at 8pm with discussions aimed at addressing major problems that have come to the fore in more recent times with some teams struggling to field.

To assist with the meeting the FAI Club and League Development manager Barry Gleeson will be present.

To date this season eight of the starting 99 teams that set out last August have withdrawn.

'Most alarming is that two of the casualties were from the Premier League,' commented NEFL secretary Gerry Gorman.

'Following a request to all clubs for feedback to allow formulation of a structured agenda four items have been repeatedly put forward,' he added.

PROPOSALS

1. Address difficulties getting the required support for fundraising,
2. Possible change of season duration in line with the League of Ireland.
3. With the exception of the top two sections, regionalise all other Divisions
4. Minimise the amount of games on Sundays.

'It is hoped by 8pm on Tuesday a lot more ideas will be featured that will hopefully have a positive impact for the future of organised adult football within the North East area,' added Gerry Gorman.
