Oscar exit for nefl

The North East Football League exited the FAI Oscar Traynor Trophy this afternoon at the MDL in Navan when they were edged out by the odd goal in three against a nard-working Kilkenny side.

Kilkenny took the lead from a David Rice header in the eighth minute after Michael O'Neill sent over a good corner. They added a second from the penalty spot through Ben Ryan.

The penalty decision seemed harsh, but the NEFL hit back a minute later (24 mins) when Barry Kavanagh steered the ball to the net.

NEFL upped the tempo in the second-half, but they lacked quality in the finishing department and wasted a corner in the closing stages (see video clip) after some good pressure.

Manager Paddy O'Reilly was very disappointed with the result and also felt that his team could have performed better. 'You have to be good enough, manager and players, to win a match on the day and we weren't good enough today,' he said.
