James Finnerty

Meath players in international panels

Meath soccer players James Finnerty from Skrye, Jamie McGrath from Athboy and Kevin Toner from Ashbourne have been named in Republic of Ireland international panels this week.

Finnerty is in the panel named by u-16 head coach Tom O'Connor, a man who is familiar with Meath as he was one of the coaches who conducted an FAI Introductory Course with Noel King back in 1987 in Navan.

O’Connor’s side will meet Austria in their opening fixture at Shanowen Road, the home of St Kevin’s Boys FC, this Sunday at 12.00 noon then host Czech Republic on Monday, February 16, at Gannon Park, Malahide (4.00pm) before finishing the tournament against Denmark on Wednesday, February 18, at Home Farm FC’s Whitehall ground (11.00am).

“This is an excellent opportunity for the players to learn about international football and to prepare for the UEFA U17 Championships qualifying round next season,” said O’Connor.

McGrath and Toner are in the u-19 panel named by Paul Doolin for two friendly internationals against Azerbaijan later this month.

Doolin’s side are preparing for the forthcoming elite phase of the UEFA u-19 Championships.

The Irish host Azerbaijan at Tallaght Stadium on Wednesday, February 25 (7.00pm), then the two sides meet again at the same venue on Friday, February 27 (3.00pm).
