Mixed fortunes for meath players on international front

There were contrasting fortunes for soccer players from Meath as they represented Ireland at various international levels over the past week.
Trim youngster Dominic Peppard was part of the Republic’s u-15 squad that was involved in playing two internationals away to Poland, one on Tuesday and other on Thursday. The boys in green lost both games 1-2.
Many of the players involved in these games are sure to be in line for further international recognition as the Irish side are due to play Scotland in the new year.
Peppard played for Trim Celtic in the North Eastern Counties Schoolboys’ League before moving to Dublin club Belvedere. He has since been transferred to St Joseph’s Boys and was part of the Dublin & District Schoolboys’ League (DDSL) side that won the Kennedy Cup last summer.
The Irish players will now come together for national assessments in December ahead of January games against Scotland. Another group of players born in 2000 will play the NDSL next month in a development game.
There was better news for Jamie McGrath (pictured) from Athboy. He was part of Paul Doolan’s side that defeated Malta 1-0 in a rain-soaked RSC in Waterford yesterday evening.
The home team netted their only goal after 17th minutes when Eoghan Stokes found the target and while the Republic created plenty of opportunities thereafter they were denied by some stout defending from the Maltese side.
Ireland now go on to play Gibraltar tomorrow at Ferrycarrig Park, 3.0 before taking on Switzerland back in the RSC on Tuesday, 2.0
