Cosmos and woodview draw in cracker

There was no shortage of goals or excitement as MDL Premier table-toppers Navan Cosmos and Woodview played out a thrilling 4-4 draw at the MDL last night.

Despite dominating for large spells Cosmos had to depend on a late goal from Sean Conaty to earn the draw that ensures they stay undefeated in the league.

Cosmos created a series of chances in the opening half with their fast-paced football.

They deservedly scored the opener through Conaty before Conor Walsh put them 2-0 up at the break but it should have been two or three more at least.

Ray McCann and Billy Smith hauled the reigning champions back on level terms with 68 minutes played but those goals came against the run of play.

Laurence Ivers headed superly home to put Cosmos ahead again on 76 minutes but Woodview hit back with a double salvo from their sharpshooter Mickey O'Kane to go 4-3  in front.

It looked like the visitors would hold onto their advantage until, with just a minute remaining, Conaty fired a brilliant goal home from the edge of the box to leave the sides level once more.

The game was played under the lights on the MDL's new all-weather pitch and the excellent surface contributed to the quality and the high entertainment value.
