Meath girls in action for Ireland today

Amanda McQuillan from Johnstown, Navan who was a nominee for the 2013 Young Meath Sportspersonof the year last January  will be playing for the Republic of Ireland Women’s U-16 team today against England.
 
She has already played for the u-17 team and is regarded as an excellent goalkeeper with a great future ahead of her in the game.
 
The game will be played at St George's Park which is near Birmingham and is a major centre for the game in England.
 
That's not the only involvement of girls from the Royal County at international level this weekend.
 
Three Meath girls will feature on the panel for the Irish Schools v  England Schools at Maidstone United today (8th March 1.30pm) as part of preparations for the Bob Docherty Cup at Repton School, Derbyshire from 14th to 17th April.
 
The three are Naoisha McAloon (Ratoath College), Chloe McNamee (St Oliver’s Post Primary, Oldcastle), Katie Burdis (Coláiste na hInse, Bettystown), 
 
Lorraine Counihan (Colaiste Mhuire, Buttevant) is the International Schools manager this season. The Limerick native served as Assistant Manager in 2013 and takes over the managerial position from Tullamore’s Richelle O’Neill.
 
O’Neill had quite a successful squad last season picking up the runners up spot in the Bob Docherty Cup in Belfast.  Alistair Harvey has been appointed coach while Tipperary man, David Rooney joins the team as goalkeeping coach.
