Opening night win for Robbie Horgan

Good start to the new season for Robinstown man Robbie Horgan in his first game as manager of Drogheda Utd as they won by 4-1 against Louth rivals Dundalk.

Two Drogheda players and one from Dundalk were sent-off, a half-time exchange resulted in red cards for substitutes Philly Hughes and Simon Kelly while Gavin Brennan departed in the 86th minute.

Goals from Eric Foley, Gavin Brennan, Declan O’Brien in the 53rd minute and again in the 68th minute sealed the issue.

Gary O’Neill (Ashbourne) and Cathal Brady (Dunboyne) both featured for Drogheda in what was the upset of the night.

No joy on the opening night for Galway FC sponsored by Comer Homes (Dunboyne) as theu lost 0-1 to Longford Town. Shelbourne beat Wexford 2-0 while Finn Harps and Waterford finished 0-0.

TOMORROW NIGHT

Gary Rogers will be in action for Sligo Rovers against Athlone Town who have signed Athboy man Kealan Dillon from St Mirren.
