Toner helps ireland

Meath’s Devin Toner played his part as Ireland carved out a famous 24-9 victory over France in their last World Cup Pool D game at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff this evening.

The Irish clocked up the victory with the help of a two penalties apiece from Jonathan Sexton and Ian Madigan, tries from Rob Kearney and Conor Murray with one of them converted by Madigan.

Toner, the Meath Sportsperson of the Year, got the nod for today’s big clash with France on the back of an appearance as a substitute in the lacklustre win over Italy last week.

The big Moynalvey man did well to get the call ahead of the impressive Iain Henderson.

Now Ireland take on Argentina in the World Cup quarter-final back at the Millennium Stadium next Sunday.
