Memorable double for navan at donnybrook

Navan rugby teams achieved a memorable double at Donnybrook today when they won the Leinster Premier League finals at both u-17 and u-19 levels.

The u-17s survived a late scare to defeat Carlow 13-11 and bag their title and the u-19s went on to complete the double when they out-gunned Skerries 23-13.

Both games were highly entertaining affairs on Donnybrook’s new all-weather pitch but in each case the Balreask Old teams showed the necessary spirit and determination.

Trailing 0-5 at the interval the Navan u-17s put in a strong second-half display to defeat Carlow.

A try from JJ O’Dea added to two excellent penalties from Farrell provided the platform for the Navan side to go on and win the game.

In the exciting closing minutes Carlow out-half Mark McDermott had a close-in penalty attempt rebounded off the post.

In the u-19 game Conor Farrell capped a sparkling display with two tries as Navan controlled affairs for lenghty spells while Ronan Scott was another to go over for a try.

Ian Rickard also scored a late, superb touchdown with Christian Byrne tagging on a penalty.
