Irish seek redemption after knock-out blow

The Irish rugby team will be looking to make up for the bitter disappointment of their defeat to England in the Women’s Rugby World Cup yesterday when they take on France in the third/fourth place play off on Sunday.

After scoring an early try and conversion the Irish were submerged in an avalanche of England attacks and eventually lost 7-40 at the Stade Jean-Buain, Paris.

Marie Louise Reilly was outstanding for the girls in green, making a series of tackles and also making her presence felt in the line-outs. Grace Davitt also tackled tenaciously before she was replaced in the second-half.

Both players would be expected to feature again against France and perhaps this time Jackie Shiels from Navan might also get a run out as she had produced a super display in Ireland’s 40-5 victory over Kazakhstan in the group phase.

The third/fourth place play-off will take place in the Stade Jean-Buain and will preceed the World Cup final between Canada and England.
