Irish turn attention to next step after historic win

Today the three Meath players on the Irish squad for the Women's World Cup  in France - Grace Davitt, Marie Louise Reilly and Jackie Shiels - will turn their attention to the team's next big assignment in what is already a memorable tournament for the girls in green.

Reilly and Davitt helped create a piece of Irish rugby history yesterday when they were involved the the team that defeated New Zealand, 17-14, just outside Paris.

It was the first time in 23 years the so called Black Ferns have suffered a defeat in the World Cup.

Now the Irish will start their preparations for their next assignment against Kazakhstan on Saturday, 12.0 and they will go into that game as hot favourties.

If they win that game they are most likely to play the host nation France in the semi-finals on Wednesday 13th August at the Stade Jean Bouin.

The World Cup final will be played also at the Stade Jean Bouin on Sunday 17th August.

Reilly and Davitt would once more be expected to start against Kazakhstan. They both made a big contribution to yesterday's memorable win over New Zealand who have won the last three World Cup finals.

Shiels may also make an appearance against Kazakhstan.
