Summerhill struggle past Duleek/Bellewstown

On a scoreline of 1-13 to 2-5 Summerhill defeated Duleek/Bellewstown in their opening round of the SFC at Pairc Tailteann today but this was dire stuff.

The entertainment value was low as both sides committed a litany of errors with Summerhill hitting 16 wides alone.

John Lyons' side led 1-5 to 1-3 at the interval with David Larkin getting their goal and Robin Clarke finding the net for Duleek/Bellewstown.

Duleek/Bellewstown did show signs of revival in the second-half. They gave themselves real hope when they edged briefly ahead 30 seconds after the break when John McDonnell powered through to get a fine goal after a lenghty run.

Summerhill however managed to find the range enough times to haul themselves back out in front with substitute Bobby Lyons contributing two fine points from play.

Kevin Lyons also fired over a brace of points to help the 'Hill secure their win but they will need to improve a lot more if they are to make an impact in this year's championship.

Duleek/Bellewstown will be concerned about getting involved in a relegation dogfight.
