David Campese

Campese and Ferris for Navan RFC event

Australian rugby legend David Campese will be a guest of honour along with former Irish international Stephen Ferris at Navan RFC's corporate dinner later today.

The dinner, which will be held in the Ardboyne Hotel, is sure to prove a very entertaining affair with both former internationals recounting events from their careers.

Campese won 101 caps with Australia. He played a crucial part in helping the Aussies win the 1991 Rugby World Cup scoring six tries during the course of the tournnament. In the final Australia defeated England 12-9.

It is understood former Navan coach John Mulvihill is well known by Campese and he was involved in getting him to Navan.

Ferris played for Ulster and Ireland and won 35 caps during a distinguished career. He was forced to call an early halt to his career because of injuries.

Campese will, not doubt, be attending tomorrow's international between Ireland and Australia at the Aviva.

Once again Meath's Devin Toner has been chosen by Joe Schmidt to play in the second row against the Aussies who are managed by former Leinster coach Michael Cheika.

Toner was on the Irish team that created history by defeating New Zealand 40-29 in Chicago a few weeks ago. He was also on the team that lost to the All-Blacks last week in a contest that was has become notorious for the way the New Zealanders executed a number of high tackles on Irish players.
