Second medal for James Scully

Ratoath's James Scully won his second bronze medal at the Paralympic Swimming European Championships in Eindhoven this evening.

In an exciting final Scully clinched bronze from Russia’s Roman Zhdanov (2:54.24) who was the fastest qualifier from this morning’s heats.

The 21-year-old returned a time of 2:53.13 in the final for a season’s best and just a tenth of a second off his personal best time of 2:53.03 which he swam at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

“I’m absolutely thrilled; two bronze medals is just brilliant. I sat down with my coach earlier and went out to focus on power and rhythm rather than splash and dash for the race, and it worked so well,” commented Scully.
