Lion na Bearnai heading for Aintree

A tilt at the Aintree Grand National looks likely for the locally-owned Lion na Bearnai after the weights were announced this week although the horse's trainer Tom Gibney is not overly-impressed with 10-10 weight that was allocated to the 2012 Irish Grand National winner.

Lion na Bearnai is owned by the Lock Syndicate and includes a number of enthusiasts from the Kilskyre, Kells and Ballinlough areas.

'I can't believe that. It's good in a sense that we'll probably get a run, but that's more than last year  and he missed the race due to injury,' commented Gibney.

'I don't know where they got that weight from, but there's nothing we can do about that. The plan all along was the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse on Saturday week and then Liverpool, so that's what we'll probably do,' he added.
