Elizabeth Morland wins young sportsperson award

Cushinstown athlete Elizabeth Morland was selected as the Young Sportsperson of the year at the seventh annual Meath sports awards at Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim.

The Tara girl who is 15 was one of six nominees for the award – the first time the category has been expanded to six.

She won 10 All-Ireand and nine Leinster medals in 2013 as part of her success along with a number of international successes.

Barry Geraghty, the overall winner, congratulated the young sportsperson nominees in his acceptance speech.

“The amount of talent in the youth category is amazing, it's an honour to be associated with so many talented young people, hoepfully they will be back here challenging for the overall award over the next few years,” he commented.

The Meath Chronicle / Cusack Hotel Group annual awards were introduced in 2007 following an initiative by the late John Cusack to recognise the achievements of local (Meath) sportspeople.
