Treacy selected for Europe

Moynalvey’s Sarah Treacy is one of four Irish athletes who have been selected on the European team to compete at tomorrow’s BUPA Great Edinburgh International Cross-Country, which also doubles again as a triangular international between Great Britain, Europe and the US.

Treacy, who was 31st at the European Cross-Country Championships before Christmas, is in great form and joins former European champion Fionnuala Britton, West Waterford’s David McCarthy and Portlaoise’s Michael Mulhare who were 18th and 15th respectively at the European Championships.

Britton is again pitted against Frenchwoman Sophie Duarte, who took her crown at last month’s European Cross-Country championships.

The junior races start at noon, while BBC1’s live television coverage will take in the men’s 4km (1.20) and both senior 8km races (1.40 and 2.15) races.

The Woodies DIY National Indoor Combined Championships take place in Athlone IT tomorrow where Star of the Sea’s Kourosh Foroughi will be in action.
