Meath successes at Dundalk

Last Friday night Irish Grand National-winning trainer Thomas Gibney was collecting an award at the Meath Chronicle / Cusack Hotel Group Sports awards and tonight Irish Grand National-winning jockey Andrew Thornton (pictured) from Navan was in the winners enclosure at Dundalk. Thornton's partnered the Claire Simpson-trained (near Dunderry) Enigma Code to victory in a six-furlong race. Formerly owned by James Gough and trained by James McAuley, Enigma Code was winning for the first time for her trainer who only got a licence before Christmas. Trainer John Carr, who trained Sublimity to win the Champion Hurdle in 2007, was also on the mark when Atlas Peak (rated 47) won a 47 to 64 handicap for jockey Conor Hoban who completed a 4850/1 three-timer. Atlas Peak is owned by a syndicate that comprises eight members, most of them based in Navan. Atlas Peak was formerly trained by Michael Halford. Gretzky won at the track two weeks agao and won again tonight for young Kilmessan handler Matthew Smith in the last race and completed the treble for Hoban.
