Meath Sports Awards - 18th January
The sixth annual Meath Chronicle / Cusack Hotel Group sports awards will take place at the Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim on Friday 18th January. The contenders in the various catergories are as follows: OVERALL These are selected on a monthly basis and each will receive a monthly award with the overall winner announced at the end of the evening. January - Andrew Lynch February - Stephen Bray March - Barry Geraghty April - Thomas Gibney May - Natalya Coyle June - Brian Farrell July - Rory McNamara August - Cian O'Connor September - John Davis October - Gary Rogers November - Martin Curran December - Sara Treacy One of the above will receive the overall Sportsperson-of-the-year award on Friday 18th January OTHER CATEGORIES OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUAL There are three nominees in the individual category - Colin Costello (Star of the Sea AC) Meath footballer Donal Keogan. Greyhound trainer Ollie Bray. TEAM There are three nominees in the team cetegory - Meath All-Ireland Premier Junior Camogie champions Keegan Cup winners Navan O'Mahonys Jubilee Cup winners Kiltale. YOUNG (three nominees) EAMONN WALLACE (RATOATH ATHLETIC CLUB) Eamonn Wallace burst onto the scene in 2012 to make a mark in Gaelic football and athletics. His greatest achievement came at the National Athletics Championships when he was crowned u-19 200m champion ahead of a talented field of the country's leading sprinters. He was also a key part of the JFC winning Ratoath side as well as being a valuable part of the club's successful MFC side. He also scored 1-3 in the Tailteann Cup final as Ratoath defeated Bective. At schools level Wallace was the main man as Ratoath College lifted the All-Ireland Vocational Schools SF B title with a final win over Colaiste Cill Mhaintain. ROSS TREACY (PARKVILLA) In the Kennedy Cup the NECSL representative side put in a strong performance to secure 10th place. The NECSL selection lost out to Cavan/Monaghan in the Bowl final. Two players who were on the NECSL squad, Conor Brennan and Ross Treacy, were subsequently invited to join the FAI's Emerging Talent panel. Goalkeeper Ross Treacy went on to be selected for the Republic of Ireland u-15 international squad to play the Aspire Academy and Juventus in a three-team mini-tournament in December in Qatar. JACK REGAN (KILTALE GAA CLUB) The young Kiltale hurler enjoyed a superbb 2012 at club and county levels and finished the year with a remarkable tally of 2-10 in the u-21 HC final in December against Trim. He also featured prominently for his club in the Minor HC decider where he lined out at full back and still hit the target with great accuracy and he was also a member of the Jubilee Cup-winning SHC Kiltale team. Jack also featured prominently for Meath in a rousing performance in the Leinster MHC against Offaly at O'Connor Park, Tullamore. WHO IS YOUR SELECTION?
