Tonight's Junior D FC final at Pairc Tailteann was abandoned at half-time following the tragic death of Meath Hill player.

The game between Meath Hill and Longwood was abandoned before the second-half could start when word came through about the bereavement.

The young man, who played with the club's Junior A team, was involved in a motorcycle accident near his home in Meath Hill early on Saturday evening.

The news filtered through that he had passed away during the first half of the Junior D final.

The decision was taken to abandon the game at half-time. At the time Meath Hill led 2-2 to 1-4.

That game in Navan was the third game of the evening and had been preceded by two SFC games where Navan O'Mahonys defeated Seneschalstown and Summerhill narrowly got the better of Duleek / Bellewstown.
