Tattersalls International Horse trials - final results

History was made at Tattersalls yesterady in the world of international horse trials as William Fox-Pitt won all three senior international classes taking home the trophies for the CCI*, CCI** and CCI***. Going into the arena with just one fence in hand in the star-studded Irish Field CCI*** class, he rode a cool, professional round on Oslo to clinch his third international title of the day. In hot pursuit were Oliver Townend on The Imperial Master, Ruth Edge on Applejack 11 and Armagh-based Jayne Doherty on The Only One, respectively. Doherty was very much the local hero. Not only did she also finish 12th on her second CCI*** horse, Ravenstar, but she took home the Lord Carew Silver Salver for the highest placed Irish Rider, the Watercolour Trophy, and shared the Ian Olding Memorial Trophy with Joseph Murphy for the Northern Region rider that improved most after dressage with a rise of 21 places. Almost 20,000 visitors streamed through the gates to the superb Tattersalls Ireland facilities to enjoy a lot of family fun and shopping in the Country Fair as well as top class equestrianism. Catherine Witt of Rookery Park Stud, sponsored both the CCI** and the CCI* classes, was overjoyed when the horse that William Fox-Pitt had ridden to victory in the one star class at this event a year ago, Bay My Hero, went on to win the CCI** class.. Second to Fox-Pitt on Lady Voltaire in the CCI* by a fraction of a point was Louisa Lockwood on The Leopard. Suzanne Jordan from Co Down did Ireland proud with third place on Da Capo Two. The Tattersalls Ireland Event Horse Sales CIC class rode both their show jumping and cross country. The cross country phase produced dramatic changes to the placings with the inexperience of some of the younger horses showing through. Only five went round clear of jumping penalties. These included the winner Oliver Townend on Jeepers Creepers and Sarah Bullimore on My Last One in second, with Ireland's Kate Harrington from Kildare on Jantar and Ciaran Glynn from Dublin on Killossery Kruisita in third and fourth places. The Eventing Ireland-sponsored u-25 class was an all-the-way win for young New Zealander Jesse Campbell on Kaapachino with Angus Smales on Clover Hero holding on to second and Jamie-Lee Day on Serano maintaining third position. Highest placed Irish rider and winner of the Laura Breheny Trophy was Alex Houston from Antrim on Missey Elliot in eighth. In the Tattersalls Ireland Autumn Festival of Eventing Junior class Katie Moffatt from Kerry jumped a beautiful clear on Pick and Mix 11 to hold on to her overnight lead and also win the David Foster Cup for the best Irish Junior rider. Second and third slots were instead filled by Ireland's Lucca Stubbington from (Antrim) on Kilminchy Condor and Meath rider Jamie Nolan on Capitol Coin. McGuinty Springs ridden by Robert O'Callaghan won the Tattersalls Graduate prize. The Dunboyne Castle Pony class was an outright win for Tipperary rider Anna O'Brien on Ice Cool Bailey who finished on her dressage score as did second-pplaced Lucy Latta from Wexford on Nono. Jodie O'Keeffe from Cork on Castleview Rakish Milly maintained overnight third place. SATURDAY REPORT The crowds flocked to Tattersalls again on Saturday and they were not disappointed with the spectacle of the action over Ian Stark's new cross-country course. The star event of the day was The Irish Field-sponsored CCI*** class which had attracted many of the world's top riders who were full of trepidation, and admiration, at the cross-country course. Described as "big, bold and galloping with a lot of questions posed", the course rode well, but also produced enough problems to give a result that rewarded brave and accurate riding. Overnight leader William Fox-Pitt held on to his lead with an immaculate round on Oslo, clear and inside the time. Oliver Townend on The Imperial Master moved from overnight third to second, usurping Ruth Edge on Applejack 11 who had 5.6 time penalties that pushed her down to third. An outstanding performance by Jayne Doherty from Armagh on The Only One moved her up from overnight seventh to fourth position and best of the Irish. In the Rookery Park Stud-sponsored CCI** Fox-Pitt produced another clear inside the time to retain his overnight second position behind the dressage leader Jay Halim on Adagio111 with Townend going clear also to keep his third position on Gorsehill Star. Best of the Irish was Clare Abbott from Down on Euro Prince - moved up from 17th to ninth after a fluent cross country performance. New Zealander Jesse Campbell on Kaapachino and GB's Angus Smales on Clover Hero held on to their first and second overnight placings in the Eventing Ireland u-25 class. The top three placings in the Rookery Park Stud-sponsored CCI* class remained unchanged with the leading combinations producing clears inside the time. Louisa Lockwood and The Leopard have a narrow lead over William Fox-Pitt on Lady Voltaire with Aaron Millar on Captain Hook in third.
