Lots to talk about at Moynalty

Gaeil Colmcille 2-10, Carnaross 3-4

Tangled times for Gaeil Colmcille and Carnaross players during Sunday night's IFC clash at Moynalty.
Referee Ronan Garry had to endure a torrent of abuse from some Carnaross officials and supporters as he made his way off the pitch following this IFC game at Moynalty on Sunday evening which revived the title aspirations of Gaeil Colmcille.
And that was after he had awarded Carnaross two out of three penalties, all converted, and he also correctly red-carded Carnaross substitute Stein Carpenter five minutes before the interval.
The Carnaross player was involved in an exchange with a prone Gaeil Colmcille player, but as the Kells men had possession the referee allowed play to continue. Gary Arkins (pictured) pointed from the advantage and then Garry issued the departure notice.
"We got a great start then we conceded two penalties, I wasn't convinced about one of them, but those things happen in games," Gaeil Colmcille manager Jody Devine told the Meath Chronicle.
"We had to work hard for the points, even with the extra man, but the intermediate championship is very tight and I'm just happy that we got the win, we needed to win or we were out.
"Our performance tonight made up for the result against Syddan, we scored 2-10 and I'm happy with that, we have a bye in the next round so we might have to wait a while for another game," he added.
Carnaoss faced an uphill task after they lost Carpenter although they went in at the break only two points adrift (2-3 to 2-5) as they recovered from a Gaeil Colmcille blitz that produced two goals in the first three minutes.
Seanie Curran had the ball in the Carnaross net afteronly 16 seconds and Brian Hanlon converted a third minute penalty which was awarded after Arkins was neck-wrestled to the ground.
Niall McDonnell's point got Carnaross on the scoreboard, but Gaeil Colmcille continued to thrive against the wind as Keith Reilly and Curran split the posts.
Carpenter replaced Peter Nugent in the 10th minute and Dermot McGee took over from Declan Reilly close to the interval.
John L McGee added a second point for Carnaross before he was put through for a goal by Ollie Murphy in the 15th minute.
Gaeil Colmcille kept ticking over with points from the impressive Arkins (two, one free) and the lively Hanlon and when Carpenter exited it looked like it would be easy for Kells.
However, John L McGee converted a penalty in the fourth minute of first-half injury-time and repeated the feat from the spot five minutes into the second-half.
That tied the scores at 3-3 to 2-6, Hanlon claimed a Gaeil Colmcille point within 25 seconds of the resumption.
Fractious and frenzied would be the best way to describe the remainder as minor scuffles erupted regularly, but Gaeil Colmcille regained sufficient composure to add points from Hanlon, Barry Smith and Seamus Mattimoe. All Carnaross could muster was a lone John L McGee pointed free.
One incident that really irritated the Carnaross supporters was when the referee stopped play for treatment to a Kells player. Carnaross had possession, but he resumed play with a throw-in instead of the new indirect free (can't score from it) for the team that had the ball.
However, the referee didn't actually beat Carnaross. It was Gaeil Colmcille who kept 15 on the pitch and were too strong for 14.
Maybe the complaining Carnaross officials and supporters might be better off looking at what actually happened rather than what they thought happened?
