Big interest rate at Balreask Old!

Brad Harris will leave his post as Navan rugby coach at the end of the season.

A spokesman for Navan Rugby Club confirmed to the Meath Chronicle last week that there has already been a sizeable number of high quality applications received for the position of head coach for next season.

The position will become vacant at the end of the current All-Ireland League Div 3 when Brad Harris and Ryan Roberts return to the southern hemisphere.

The spokesman confirmed that the club are delighted with the response to the search for a new manager and the Balreask Old committee hope to hold interviews soon. Harris and Roberts led the Meath club to the Holy Grail of senior rugby and with their departure the vacancy offers a new coach an ideal opportunity to bring the hugely successful club another rung up the ladder.

Last week a new PRO/Communications manager, Darra McNamara, was appointed. He may be contacted at darramacnamara@hotmail.com or (086) 8341377.

There won't be any shortage of support for Navan when they travel to take on on Connemara for their next assignment in the AIL Div 3 on Saturday.

According to club official Gerry Williamson a large contingent of Navan supporters are travelling out west to give vocal support to the team as they continue to consolidate their place in the senior ranks.

Navan displayed plenty of spirit and determination when they came from behind to defeat Barnhall 25-24 two weeks ago with victory clinched when out-half Ryan Roberts scored from a last-gasp conversion.

Full-back Karl Manning was forced to sit out that game because of injury problems however, he his expected to be available for selection for the clash with Connemara who are currently five places below Navan in the table.

The Galway side have been dogged by inconsistency all season racking up wins against the likes of Barnhall (17-10), but they also suffered an astonishing 71-point defeat by Queens University.
