Devin Toner

Double delight for Toner

Tonight Meathman Devin Toner can reflect on what has been a remarkable year for him so far on the rugby front after he helped Leinster to a 40-32 victory over the Scarlets at the Aviva earlier today.

Toner got in for a rare try rumbling over for the score to set Leinster on their way to victory - and the completion of the Champions Cup and PRO 14 double.

Earlier this month Toner helped Leinster defeat French side Racing 92 15-12 in the Champions Cup final in Bilbao. After overcoming Munster in the PRO 14 semi-final last week Leinster were left to face the Scarlets today and before 46,092 - a record crowd for the PRO 14 - they duly did the business and completed the double.

Toner and James Lowe scored tries in the opening half while Johnny Sexton added three penalties and a conversion to help Leinster lead 21-11 at the break.

Further tries from Sean Cronin,  Jordan Larmour and Jack Conan added to one conversion each from Sexton and Joey Carberry helped Leinster withstand a late surge by the Scarlets.

Earlier this year Toner also played his part as Ireland won a Grand Slam.
