Navan title hopes crumble with late try

Firm underdogs going into the game Navan showed real bite in this Ladies Leinster League Div 3 final at Naas today putting up a big fight before losing out 8-12 to Balbriggan.

The Navan side were looking like they might win until they conceded a late try that proved so costly.

The Balreask Old side took an early lead in this game when Aoife Lally slotted the ball between the posts from a penalty.

However Balbriggan showed why they are undefeated in the league this season by bouncing back with a converted try to lead 7-3 at the interval.

The try was scored by the outstanding Dearbhla Sheridan who ran from near half-way to put the ball down near the posts. Sheridan herself converted.

For lenghty spells Balbriggan held sway in the second-half but they were knocked back on their heels when Navan moved the ball through the phases to get a try scored by Lisa Keenan with the conversion missed.

However with victory on the horizon for Navan the Dublin worked a try scored by Siobhan Verdon who raced clear of despairing tackles. The conversion was missed but that hardly mattered as Balbriggan held on to win.
