Meath man at Rugby League World Cup

Former Duleek / Bellewstown GAA player Casey Dunne, who plays rugby for the Athboy Longhorns, didn't make the match day squad as Ireland opened their Rugby League World Cup campaign on Sunday.

Ireland made the best possible start with a resounding 36-12 win over Italy in Cairns, Australia.

Dunne is one of the registered home born players for Ireland and he could feature at some stage in the tournament.

Victory sets up the possibility of Ireland facing England in the quarter-finals.

Ireland's other opponents are co-hosts Papua New Guinea and Wales in a three-team Group C from which only the winner will qualify for the last eight.
Papua New Guinea are top of the table after beating Wales 50-6 on Saturday.

Ireland next's game will be against co-hosts Papua New Guinea in Port Morseby at 2am (Irish time) on Tuesday 7th November.
