Ciara Maguire with hammer throwing coach Paddy Hanily and Robert Higgins of the Fr Murphy throws group.

Meath thrower makes dash to appear on world stage

The selection came on the back of Maguire's 2016 success which saw her take both the Leinster Schools and u-19 National titles.

Due to Leaving Cert commitments, Maguire had to delay her departure and once her final exam was completed she made the late dash for the airport.

She joined her fellow team mates in Riga a day later than the team departure and a day before her competition which started yesterday.

The CSIT World Sports Games are an international major event held every two years. The games are multi sports games for amateur athletes from different countries and cultures all over the world.

Recently Maguire, who attends Scoil Mhuire, Trim finished second in the senior hammer event at the All-Ireland Schools Athletics Championships at Tullamore.

Maguire is part of the throws group that is coached by legendary thrower Paddy Hanily at Fr Murphy's AC.
