Euro target for Elizabeth Morland in July

Meath athlete Elizabeth Morland (Cushinstown AC) smashed her own Irish Heptathlon record by over 100 points and achieved the European Junior standard with another outstanding display at the seventh International Meeting of Combined Events in Arona, Tenerife last weekend.

As well as breaking her own senior Irish record, Morland gained 5,669 points which also secured qualification for the European Juniors in Grosseto, Italy in July.

The qualifying target was 5,100 points and the Tara girl achieved that with ease as she set a new outdoor personal best in the high jump with a leap of 1.76 metres.

She also set a new PB in the javelin with a throw of 41.98 metres.

Over the two days competition as well as setting two PBs, Morland also clocked a time of 14.01 seconds in the 100m hurdles, threw 10.73m in the shot, jumped 5.87m in the long jump, ran 25.13 seconds in the 200m and posted a time of 2:22.30 in the 800m.
