Toner and Ireland savour spirited win

The Irish rugby can today reflect on a superb victory when they defeated England 13-9 at the Aviva Stadium yesterday.

Devin Toner was dropped for the game in favour of Iain Henderson who went on to score the only try of the game.

Two penalties from Johnny Sexton and a conversion from the same player helped to seal the win.

Toner did make an appearance in the second-half and his experience was valuable in the closing stages as Ireland withheld a challenge from England who were looking to secure their second Grand Slam.

Ireland finished second in the Six Nations table behind England. Joe Schmidt's side finished with 14 points level with Scotland and France.

Toner played in the games against Scotland, Wales and France but lost out in a reshuffle made by Schmidt for yesterday's game.

Not only did Ireland stop England achieving another Grand Slam they halted them from carving out a new world record for a run of games undefeated in international rugby.
