Guiheen and Caldwell shine in Cycleways Cup

Fiona Guiheen who cycles for Navan Road Club won the women's race at the Cycleways Cup today. 

Guiheen finished ahead of the rest in her category in what was a big turnout of cyclists for the Navan Road Club-hosted event today. 

There was also success for young Dunshaughlin man Jack Caldwell who won the junior race in the colours of Bike Worx, Celbridge.

The main race, A1 event was won by Frenchman Louis Carnac who was riding in the colours of UCD with Con McDunphy (Lucan) second. 

No Navan Road Club cyclist featured in the top finishers in the A1 race although Matteo Gigala, who lives in Navan and rides in the colours of Aqua Blue was sixth. 

The cyclists gathered at Simonstown GAA club this morning before racing got unerderway in earnest from Kilberry at around 12.30. 

The Senior A1 race for the Cycleways Cup was over three laps of the Kilberry, Gormanlough, Slane, Woodtown, Wilkinstown circuit, a total distance of 105km.

'Thankfully there were not incidents, everyone finished their racing safely. The only blot on the day was the atrocious weather conditions,' said PJ Nolan who also thanked all those who took part in the race and who contributed to the event in any way.
