Jennie Finlay

Finlay joins select group as Irish defeat Scots

Jennie Finlay became the lastest Navan RFC player to be capped for Ireland when she made an appearance against Scotland in last night's 22-15 win in the Women's Six Nations.

Finlay now joins a list of players including Marie Louise Reilly, Jackie Shiels, Orla Brennan and Sinead Ryan who turned out for Navan before making the step up to senior international level.

Finlay came on for Leah Lyons in the 71st minute and she played her part in helping to put together Ireland's grandstand finish.

Last night's game looked to be heading for a draw with the sides standing at 15-15 going into the closing stages but with time almost up Jenny Murphy broke thorugh for a try that was converted by Nora Stapleton.

The Irish dominated in the set-pieces with the experienced Reilly playing her part at lock forward.

The Scots led 15-10 at the interval with Sene Naoupu and Alison Miller scoring two unconverted tries for the Irish. Lindsay Peat went over for another touchdown early in the second half for the team in green but a draw looked odds on until Murphy got her try.
