Bohermeen athlete Kevin McGrath.

Bohermeen athletes in fine form

Bohermeen Athletic Club runner Kevin McGrath retained his National Junior 1,500-metre title in comfortable fashion with an impressive victory at the Athlone International Arena on Sunday.

Running his first race on the track since last summer when he broke both the 800m and 1,500m National Youth records and finished fourth in the 800m at the European Youth Championships in Tiblisi, McGrath was in dominant form.

McGrath ran safely within the pack until the final couple of 200m laps and when he got into position for the push he did it in familiar fashion taking the lead with 300m to go and using his effective kick to put daylight between himself and the rest of the field.

McGrath will join all of Ireland’s best metric milers next Sunday in the new indoor athletic centre at Abbotstown for the AAI games where many will be chasing both European Senior Indoor qualifying times and some European under-20 standards for the summer.

ROSE FINNEGAN
Another Bohermeen athlete had great reason to smile over the weekend as Rose Finnegan achieved the European under-20 standard for 800m when she posted 2:09.24 ducking under the standard of 2:10 when she won the 800m at the AAI League in Athlone on Saturday.
